Final Exam:Enterprise 2.0

What is Enterprise 2.0 anyway? It is a method of building networks and sharing information through a network of people that share the same interests and information together. Overall it opens the communication paths into a two way conversation rather than one.
Some examples are blogs, wikis,tagging, social networking, twitter, facebook etc.
Through enterprise 2.0 we are able to have multiparty conversations in order to share thoughts and information.
Throughout our classes in the past semester, we learned to tweet, use widgets, blogs and a whole lot more enterprise 2.0 practices to create social networking and to receive feedback in many aspects creating a multiparty conversation.
There are many uses for businesses to take advantage of Enterprise 2.0.
One example is LinkedIn, which allows you to add people to your network; you can then see the other connections with your network party which you know along with the people they know and this will provide new business opportunities.
Social networking tools can open the doors of opportunity to build relationships with new clients for businesses and promote good references for a company. There is a tool called Pairup which was used at my old job in which would allow them to see what customers are attending certain expos and would confirm meetings with them a good socializing tool for sales teams.

Final Exam: YAHOO PIPE

I am crazy about dolphins :) I decided to create a pipe that picks up all the dolphin/swimming activities and filters them by blocking 2007 or older.Additionally it sorts in decending order.

Yahoo Pipes???

The idea of Yahoo Pipes, as far as I can tell from a quick look, is to allow that same pipe behavior on RSS feeds. The system also outputs RSS urls. There are operators like sorting, counting, truncating, etc.
Pipes has a cool way for playing with slicing and dicing feeds
It doesn’t require a ton of work to save/publish modules, you only need to have a yahoo id.....

- produces easy urls that output RSS, so those urls could in turn be used by other people or in larger modules.

I will try to play around with yahoo pipes this weekend and will post an update...

Google Wave

We were introduced to google wave in class last week. Since it's new, you will have to get an invitation which sucks! I'm waiting to see if any of my friends send me an invite so i can get a chance to explore myself as the class demo was interesting.
Basically Google wave is a realtime communication platform. It allows multiple users to communicate about a topic- in real time , on the same topic. It is almost like a live email chat.

Here are some of the cool features:

Drag-and-drop file sharing: No attachments; just drag your file and drop it inside Google Wave and everyone will have access.

-Playback: You can playback any part of the wave to see what was said.
-Waves can be embedded on any blog or website.

Net Neutrality?

Web Neutrality according to Wikipedia is defined as:

"a principle proposed for user access networks participating in the Internet that advocates no restrictions on content, sites, or platforms, on the kinds of equipment that may be attached, and on the modes of communication allowed, as well as communication that is not unreasonably degraded by other traffic."

We had an interesting and fun debate in class about the pros and cons on this topic where each group took a side and defended the side they were assigned.
I still am confused on which side I am for!

Some people think there are people who believe that a complete regulation is needed for the internet in general. There are two sides to this debate. Here are some pros and cons of Internet regulation:

Pros of regulation:

Regulation can help reduce illegal activities over the net. It will also help to prevent identity thefts and credit card thefts and many others...

Cons of Internet Regulation
A complete takeover by the government or telecommunication giants can lead to violation of net neutrality and will dampen effectiveness of this medium. It will be against net neutrality principle and will allow certain websites to limit their content to paid customers. For years the Internet has been an open source of information. A regulation policy will pretty much mean limited access to information.

Whether Internet regulation is good or not, it is a huge area for debate, but what we can do to increase the effectiveness of it in order to use it wisely! We need to use it with a sense of responsibility.
