Twitter and Business connection?

Based on my research i felt like twitter plays a good role in terms of marketing and networking;

A couple things that businesses are using are Filling job openings with tweetajob, keeping track of shipments for fedex,ups with Trackthis. Setting up meeting alerts with Timer.Twitter can help with business development, expecially if the business prospects are online. Twitter can boost customer service. It can also be good for different kinds of surveys and opinion polls. Another good use is to find out about competitors.

he help page on Twitter was quite informative for a first time user like myself! One of the cool things that I noticed was the search bar on the footer. As mentioned on the help page you can pretty much search anything and you will get updated-real time results. Also you can even find out who is tweeting in your city!
If you want to import your address book you have the option to do this as well using the Find people link. If anyone in your address book has an twitter account, then they will be notified that you want to add them and follow their tweet.
Another good feature is the fact that you can protect your profile from certain people. It is defaulted to be public, however you can customize your settings to your preference.
Everything is real time with twitter so if you want to search about a topic, it would give you up to date information- not old news.
My favorite shortcut commands:
@username + message
directs a twitter at another person, and causes your twitter to save in their "replies" tab.

D username + message
sends a person a private message that goes to their device, and saves in their web archive.

WIKIPEDIA EDITING?

It was very simple to edit and add information in wikipidia. I was eating some candy-Red Hots as I was doing the assignment and decided to see if there is any information available on the ingredients for this candy. So i looked it up and nothing was there and i added the following information that was writtin on the candy box:
Ingredients in Red Hots Include: Sucrose, Corn Syrup,Modified Food Starch,Artificial flavor, Gum, Acacia, Confectioners Glaze,Carnauba wax and Red #40.
Red Hots are manufactured by Ferrara Pan Candy Co. Forest Park IL 60130 USA

I also noticed that i had updated the information in the wrong category, so all i had to do was to go to edit this page tab, and then i was able to correct it there.
Also there is a history tab on the top as well, if you click there you will be able to see all the changes made to the article in addition to ip address information.

Opera Software

In preparation for hearing our speaker some research was done on the Opera Software Company.
Apparently Opera is not that popular on pc’s however it is a lot more popular on mobile devices.
Some of the interesting features I read on wikipedia were that Opera is actually faster than IE 7, It has a built in pop up blocker feature on the browser, it has a web feed aggregator. It also has an IRC Chat built in it as well. It has a speed dial feature which we can add links for different webpages for easier navigation to the websites.

Client Server Network

Tonight we learned about the Client Server network and their relationship.
On one side we have the client side and the other is the server side. We have the clients machine which is the actual computer (the hardware component )and then we have the browser which the user is using (mozilla,opera,internet explorer). The client side sends out an http request with the browser. This gets bounced over to the server side. The web server recieves the http request. The web server keeps track where the request needs to send the response to and what it needs to do to satisfy the response. Then it goes over to the app. server and then data server. Once it reaches the database server, it sends the protcols back with the http response server back to the clients machine. What the client receives is the page that contains several components such as html content,css (formatting) and javascript (for behavior).

Porter's 5 Forces

Last Night we took a shift to the Business side and took a break from Technology. My undergrad degree was in Business so Porter's 5 forces was a very good review for me!
Five forces according to Porter's model are:

• The rivalry between existing sellers in the market.
• The power exerted by the customers in the market.
• The impact of the suppliers on the sellers.
• The potential threat of new sellers entering the market.
• The threat of substitutes products in the market.

In order to gain competetive advantage ane be effective in any marketplace, a business should definitely understand the dynamics of its industries.
